More Illness
I am lying down on my bed, with my laptop on my lap. I have been back in the hospital for two weeks. I just got back last night. This time I lost a spleen and a great deal of energy. I was very, very sick. It seems my prostate surgery had enough rogue infection [...]
2009: A great year for speculative movies
The Dark Knight was the best speculative movie in 2008 among quite a few mediocre to worse. (I’m not a graphic comic fan, so bear that in mind.) 2009 was a great year for speculative movies. Here is my list:
District 9 - A bit offbeat, but this is a character-driven movie. It’s documentary style helps [...]
Happy New Year
I haven’t been writing for a full year… I’ve got a few more weeks to go, but I can say I’ve learned a lot in 2009. I wrote two full drafts of novels and a partial draft. I wrote about 70 short stories.
Now 2009 was intended as a learning year. 2010 is a learning year [...]
NaNoWriMo - National Novel Writing Month
Here is it November 12th. It’s twelve days into NaNoWriMo and I didn’t write a single post. My, my.
NaNoWriMo is a contest for fun. Thousands of writers sign up to write 50,000 words in a month. The NaNo organizers don’t care what kind of tripe is written. Their word counter jumbles up all the words [...]
HM Again
Another quarter another Honorable Mention for the Q3 Writers of the Future contest.
I’ve got to thank my compatriots are Hatracker’s Writers Workshop for help on this one. It was months ago that I started on The Lyre’s Surprise. It was an awful piece of work. The WotF Q3 group (early submission) really beat me up [...]
Panix Completed
If I didn’t need people to read Panix and tell me I’m all wet, I’d be done with it.
I went through the chapter exchange comments, did another run through for continuity and ran the novel through MS Word’s Spelling and Grammar check. The word count ended up a touch over 90,000 words.
So the first draft [...]
The Purple Pillar - Online Cynic in October
My poem: Alien Beauty, published in Niteblade in September under the name of Guy Antibes.
The short story: The Purple Pillar by Guy Antibes originally scheduled as a September event will be published in the October issue of the Onlne Cynic.
The Chapter Exchange
Panix is up to 86,000 words. I needed another set of eyes on the manuscript, so I started a chapter exchange with another writer. I’ve read her story, she’s in the process of reading mine.
It has proven to be of real value. Since my spouse abhors speculative fiction, I don’t use her as a reader. [...]
The Balanced Story
I am going through a bad stretch. My stories aren’t quite what they should be. I feel I was writing better a couple of months ago.
What’s wrong?
I wish I knew for sure. In some ways it’s because I am trying to change what I write about. But I think I’m still not working hard enough [...]
An End to the Madness
I finished up with Liberty Hall’s MidSommer Madness tonight. I took the time to jump ahead two days to the 30th. My assignments are complete, I will continue to critique other’s work when it comes up, but as for me and my novel, I have made it through the MidSommer gauntlet.
So what to do now? [...]
